Meat Impaction in the Esophagus

Abstract
|
|
|
Sudden esophageal obstruction by a bolus of meat is not a rare phenomenon.
Although the obstruction may be at any level within the esophagus, the distal segment is the site most commonly involved.
The patient is frequently elderly and has ill-fitting dentures though others may initiate this by bolting food.
In adult patient there is a frequent history of alcoholic intake, the consumption of meat with improper chewing.
When complete obstruction of the esophagus occurs because of methods of theraphy are available.
There are direct manual removal of the bolus via the esopha digestion of the obstructing bolus.
Periodic follow-up evaluation is recommended in every patient.
The author has experienced a case of meat impaction in the esophagus in a scar old male and reports with review of the literatures.
